ESSENTIALS
Completed B Eng / BSc degree in Bioprocess Engineering OR similar relevant qualification. Experience in custom scale-down systems for modelling processes & optimizing volumetric biomass productivity. Experience using stats methods & data analysis tools: DoE & multivariate data analysis. Experience in mammalian cell culture & production in bioreactors preferred. SA citizen already residing in Cape Town with driver’s license & own vehicle.
 
Location:  Salt River, Cape Town
Terms: Full-time, min 40hrs/wk, flexible hours, permanent role, with 3-month probation
Salary:  R20K CTC pm
 
DETAILS
An exciting role has become available with a start-up company who are pioneering the bioprocessing of cells to biomass, from pilot-plant to large scale bioreactors, with the end goal of commercialising bio-production, specific for use in the food industry. This role aims to help in the design and implementation of product development processes to optimise production to reach manufacturing level yields. You will work together in a small team, using your process engineering skills and expertise to custom design and model bioprocessing systems to optimize volumetric productivity, with the goal of minimising processing costs. This collaborative role will involve project management, to reach projected milestones. Day to day responsibilities will also include record keeping, analysing, reporting, and presenting data, and routine maintenance of bioprocessing equipment. The ideal candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision and have a self-motivated, proactive approach.
 
REQUIREMENTS
    • BEng Bioprocess Engineering / related degree
    • Bioreactor experience including working on scale-down systems for modelling processes, and in optimizing volumetric biomass productivity,
    • Experience using statistical methods & data analysis tools: Design of Experiments (DoE) and multivariate data analysis for optimisation of bioprocess steps
    • Hands on experience in growing & maintaining mammalian cell cultures preferred
    • Basic knowledge in cell culture metabolite analysis preferred
    • Self-driven, conscientious, meticulous work ethic
