Junior Scientist: Cell culture production (LC_614)

ESSENTIALS
BSc Hons in relevant Life Science / Biotechnology field with independent lab experience maintaining mammalian cell culture. Work experience (12 months’+) in health care lab OR pharmaceutical lab. Excellent aseptic technique. Experience in cultivated meat / meat bioprocessing is advantageous. Flexible to work weekends and/or after hours to support cell culture when required.
 
Candidates already residing in Cape Town required, with a driver’s license & own vehicle.
 
Location:  Woodstock, Cape Town
Terms: Permanent
Salary: R15 K+ per month, which is negotiable based on experience
 
DETAILS
Do you have a relevant BSc Hons, with 1 years’ work experience in a commercial lab and hands on experience in mammalian cell culture?
 
This role aims to support the research & development being conducted into the production of cultured meat. The day-to-day responsibilities of this role include independently conducting routine cell culture, isolation, subculturing, maintenance, and cryopreservation of mammalian cells. While adhering to good lab practices, other lab duties will include preparing reagents and buffer stocks, with detailed record keeping of results and data and routine maintenance of lab equipment. This role will form part of a collaborative team within the companies R&D department and requires coordination, planning and presenting updates with colleagues regarding project milestones, plans and projections.
 
REQUIREMENTS
    • BSc Hons Biotechnology / related life science Honours degree / qualification
    • 12 months+ work experience in ac commercial health care / pharmaceutical lab
    • Practical experience growing & maintaining mammalian cell cultures is essential
    • Excellent aseptic technique & ability to work independently in the lab
    • Ability to collaborate with team members & willing to conduct routine work
    • A self-driven, conscientious, and meticulous work ethic
    • Flexible to work afterhours/weekends when required (cell culture requirements)
