ESSENTIALS
BSc Hons OR MSc in Chemistry / Biochemistry AND proven hands on, practical experience & deep technical understanding of Elemental Analysis & Isotope-Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) techniques. Must have technical troubleshooting capabilities. Excellent communication & presentation skills.
Must be a SA citizen, driver’s license, own transport, valid passport, must be willing to travel.
**This role requires a mechanical aptitude: must be comfortable working with hand tools to perform minor hardware adjustments, physical troubleshooting & instrumentation repairs.
Location: Cape Town (with local, national & international travel required)

DETAILS
Our client is a well-established lab instrumentation & lab supplies distributor with customers based across SA & into Africa. The primary responsibility of the role involves technically assisting & supporting customers in the smooth running of their high-end Elemental Analysis & Isotope-Ratio Mass Spectrometry instrumentation. Secondary technical support responsibilities include LC-MS, ICP-OES, nutrient, water analysis, and protein chromatography platforms as required. This technical support is provided to customers via on-site lab visits, email inquiries and through remote channels (telephonic & remote access software). Other facets of the position include troubleshooting hardware & software issues, identifying root causes, essentially implementing effective solutions to minimise downtime and maximise lab system productivity. Delivering comprehensive training and creating documentation for continuous improvement & QA for the customers is integral to the role. Training is provided; however, the ideal candidate possesses a natural aptitude / skill for technical troubleshooting & problem solving in an analytical chemistry environment.
REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:
- BSc Hons OR MSc Chemistry / Biochemistry + independent practical experience & deep technical understanding of Elemental Analysis & Isotope-Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS) techniques
- Technical lab experience of LC-MS / ICP-OES / protein chromatography / nutrient- & water analysis is highly advantageous
- Strong analytical & troubleshooting skills for resolving technical issues
- Comfortable working with tools, mechanically hands on with lab instruments
- Technically curious, solutions-driven & detail-oriented
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) in English
- South African citizen with a valid passport & willing to travel frequently
- Driver’s license, own transport
